The Senior-Level DBA/DRE – Role Description & Requirements

At Advana, we are looking for a Database reliability Engineer to help lead large-scale data store environments. This team is responsible for providing new architectures and scalability solutions to ever-growing business and data processing needs.   • This engineer will be responsible for automating setup, scaling and maintaining production databases: RDS Instances, Aurora (cluster and serverless) in AWS
  • Responsible for working with development teams and engineers to provide a database design guidance 
  • Handle Database upgrades and migrations, while monitoring and improving database performances 
  • Provide assessments of data integrity, high availability, data security, and privacy 
  • Triage and solve database issues, drive incidents until resolution and employ measures to prevent recurrence 
  • Do capacity planning benchmarking on various databases 
  • Develop, implement and maintain automation tools to manage and monitor diverse database technologies we have

  • A candidate with distributed computer understanding and experience with SQL, Spark, ETL

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a DBA / DRE 
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS data technologies and solutions, such as Redshift SQL
  • Advanced skills and experience with PostgreSQL and associated PostgreSQL technologies
  • Experience with databases at TB scale, high throughput and low latency, particularly using “big data” tooling (Hadoop, Spark, RedShift, HDFS)
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems
  • Good software development skills in Python/Go/Shell/Perl, PL/SQL or similar languages for scripting and automation
  • Strong Unix Internals experience
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, information technologys, or other technical discipline
  • Active TS/SCI clearance and willing to upgrade to Polygraph, or Clerable
  • Available to be onsite in DMV region a minimum of 2-3 days a week, with flexibility of 4-5 as needed preferred

Additional Qualifications:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
  • Vendor certifications corresponding to the data products for which experience is claimed
  • Postgraduate work, or advanced degree, in a data management discipline
  • Familiarity with Active Directory constructs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proven collaboration skills.
  • Docker/Kubernetes experience
  • Willingness to function on bleeding edge of commercial constructs in a secure and restricted environment
  • Not looking for: Oracle DBA experience, MySQL expereince
