The Senior-Level Kubernetes Engineer – Role Description & Requirements

In an increasingly connected world, massive amounts of structured and unstructured data open up endless opportunities. At Advana, our dashboard developers spend their days unlocking secrets held by data sets and exploring new possibilities presented by the IoT, machine learning, and artificial intelligence advances. They turn complex data sets into valuable information to solve global challenges across private and public sectors — from fraud detection to cancer research to national intelligence — they know, the answers are in the data.

What we’re looking for:
 
Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years working with Kubernetes or equivalent application platform. Ideal candidate has knowledge in:
    • Containerization
    • Cluster Administration
    • CI/CD Deployments
    • IAC’ed Bootstrap and Deployment
  • 3+ years working with AWS constructs, at least one major severless application architecture/deployment. More than simply “experience building EC2s,” candidate has experience and knowledge around:
    • Serverless Cloud 
    • VM Instances
    • Cloud Specific Kubernetes Offerings (EKS, AKS, GKE)
    • Storage Solutions (S3, EBS, EFS)
  • Knowledge of DevOps, DevSecOps, and best practices, including:
    • CI/CD
    • Platform
    • Authentication/Authorization
  • Willigness to be onsite in the Crystal City/Alexandria, VA region 2-3 days per week
  • Active TS/SCI clearance and willing to upgrade to Polygraph

Additional Qualifications:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
  • Vendor certifications corresponding to the data products for which experience is claimed
  • Postgraduate work, or advanced degree, in a data management discipline
  • Some familiarity with Active Directory constructs
  • Familiarity with AI/ML tooling (Kubeflow, Sagemaker)
  • Familiarity with “big data” tooling (Hadoop, Spark, RedShift, HDFS)
  • Willingness to function on bleeding edge of commercial constructs in a secure and restricted environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proven collaboration skills.
